French and Spanish Film Club

You will watch French and Spanish films in their original language (subtitled in English) and increase your awareness of French and Spanish cinema and culture. You will develop your analysis of film analysis through discussions about the films we watch. This enrichment is suitable to anyone who has an interest in cinema and does not require prior knowledge of French or Spanish.

What will you cover in this enrichment

Week One

Watch la Haine (1995), a French film direct by Mathieu Kassovitz. La Haine is a gritty and visually striking film set in a low-income banlieue districts on Paris’s outskirts

Week Two

Finish watching la Haine. Review it and discuss the film techniques

Week Three

Watch El Orfanato (The Orphanage)  (2007), a Spanish film direct by Guillermo del Toro. El Orfanato is a gothic supernatural horror film.

Week Four

Finish watching El Orfanato. Review it and discuss the film techniques.

Week Five

Watch Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) is a 1988 Spanish black comedy film written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar.

Week Six

Finish watching Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios. Review it and discuss the film techniques.
